Root Pop — v0.1.1 Web Demo Refresh
Pull roots. Chain pops. Grow the soil.
Root Pop is a free browser-playable prototype about sweeping over ripe roots, popping harvests out of the soil, earning Roots, and unlocking early upgrades like Root Grip and x2 Sweeps.
This v0.1.1 refresh focuses on the first few minutes: a clearer first action, stronger harvest feedback, cleaner UI, and a faster first upgrade payoff.
How to play
- Move the mouse over ripe roots to loosen and pop them.
- Collect Roots as harvested crops fly into the top-left counter.
- Open Skills to buy Root Grip and other early upgrades.
- Use Root Grip to unlock x2 Sweeps and see an extra working hand.
- Grow the field as fertile soil expands through play and upgrades.
What changed in v0.1.1
- Clearer first action: the opening now points players toward sweeping over ripe roots.
- Stronger first reward: the first harvest has clearer pop, collection, and Roots feedback.
- Earlier upgrade payoff: Root Grip / x2 Sweeps appears sooner and is easier to understand.
- Cleaner shell UI: main menu, Settings, Controls, Skill Tree, HUD layering, and UI assets were refreshed.
- Web build refreshed: browser flow, Start path, WebAudio, save/load after refresh, and live itch smoke checks were reviewed.
What I want feedback on
- Is the first root pop satisfying?
- Do the first 3 minutes make you want to continue?
- Is Root Grip / x2 Sweeps clear?
- Are Harvest Requests clear?
- Is Auto-Pull helpful or confusing?
- Is the music / SFX balance okay in browser?
Known limitations
- This is still a free public prototype playtest, not a finished paid game.
- The browser embed may show small black bars or scrollbars depending on viewport.
- Later progression still needs stronger long-term goals, deeper skill choices, and more reasons to keep spending Roots.
Requirements

Thanks for trying it. Fair point. I’ll work on making the core loop more satisfying and memorable.
If you have a minute, what was the main thing that made it feel mid to you: the pacing, rewards, controls, or just not enough content yet?
Nice first loop ! I need to see more ;)
The small contracts are nice but we don't understand always what we win to do it like "Harvest any mature roots".
The gameplay is cool even if sometimes I pull it up very slowly and I can't hold it and retry same force and it is working.
We should be able to see somewhere the active bonus.
The window for the autopull get in the front of skill tree, we have to get the out the tree turn it off and come back.
Maybe you should take off the quit button for the web version he make the game unusable until we reload the page.
The pull sound is nice but the music is too loud to ear it. (found in the settings:)

I’m happy the first loop felt good. I’ll fix the unclear contract rewards, active bonus visibility, auto-pull/Skill Tree overlap, Web Quit button issue, pull consistency, and default music/SFX balance.
Really appreciate you playing and writing this up.
